Study focused on the regulatory diagnosis and pricing proposals associated with the massive adoption of Measurement, Monitoring and Control Systems (SMMC) or smart meters in Chile. Developed by Ohmio for EnergyPartnership Chile-Germany and the Chilean Ministry of Energy
The study identifies barriers and proposes concrete recommendations to encourage mass adoption of smart metering:
– Adaptive implementation: A progressive plan by phases and pilots allows the strategy to be adjusted to the reality of the market over time.
– State leadership: The State must assume an active role to rebuild the social legitimacy of the deployment, clearly communicating the multidimensional benefits of this technology.
– Regulatory modernization: It is necessary to increase the granularity of energy prices, enable new tariff structures and align distributors' incentives with efficient consumption.
